Jets Sign K Austin Seibert to Practice Squad, Elevate Him to Active Roster

Emergency Kicker Signing

The New York Jets acted swiftly after their regular kicker, Greg Zuerlein, suffered a groin injury and was listed as questionable for an upcoming game.

Temporary Replacement

Austin Seibert, formerly with the Browns and Lions, was signed to the Jets' practice squad, providing immediate backup for the injured Zuerlein.

One-Week Solution

Coach Robert Saleh indicated that Zuerlein's injury isn't expected to be long-term, suggesting that Seibert's signing may be a short-term solution to ensure kicking stability.

Experience Matters

Seibert brings experience, having attempted 55 field goals and 61 extra points in 30 NFL games, making 44 of those field goals.

Practice Squad Elevation

In a strategic move, Seibert was elevated from the practice squad to the active roster for the upcoming game against the Cowboys.

Special Teams Focus

The Jets recognize the importance of a reliable kicker in close games and are taking steps to ensure a strong special teams presence.

Defensive Reinforcement

In addition to Seibert, the Jets also elevated linebacker Sam Eguavoen from the practice squad, indicating their commitment to roster flexibility and depth.

Temporary Call-Up

This marks the second consecutive time Eguavoen has been temporarily called up from the practice squad, highlighting the team's adaptability to injury-related challenges.
